Connecting Saudi Youth with F&B Opportunities
Qoot is the first restaurant and cafes association in Saudi Arabia. As part of being involved in building their vision and reshaping their offerings, we designed an ecosystem that enabled them to achieve their goals through multiple collaborative platforms. One of these platforms was Fursah; targeting young Saudi job seekers, it facilitated their employment within the restaurant and cafe sector.
The Challenge
The F&B sector can be perceived by Saudis as an unappealing sector to work in. This led to restaurants and cafes facing difficulties when it came to meeting their Saudization goals. There was also a gap when it came to connecting recruiters with potential employees; jobseekers were not aware of where to find F&B vacancies, and recruiters were finding it challenging to connect with such jobseekers.
The Process
We conducted research through which we spoke to Saudi F&B establishments of various sizes; this allowed us to understand the pain points in the recruitment process and analyze the behavior of young Saudis when it comes to considering and applying for jobs in the F&B sector. This deep understanding of the current situation, particularly with respect to aspects such as training and retention, allowed us to map out the relevant user journeys, taking into consideration how these journeys varied for businesses of different sizes. As opposed to merely depending on assumptions, we were able to use real data to determine the way forward, as we framed solutions that met both the recruiters’ and jobseekers’ needs. All this was reflected in the UX and UI developed for the platform.
The Experience
This led to the creation of Fursah, a mobile web recruitment platform which, as a Qoot product, was the first F&B-specific jobs portal in the Kingdom. Through providing a means for jobseekers to view vacancies and connect with recruiters, it supported Qoot’s objectives, helping to establish the brand. Our research had revealed the importance of job proximity as the key factor considered by jobseekers when considering a job in the F&B sector. And so, with an interface based on geolocation, Fursah showed jobseekers the vacancies that were close to, and so convenient for, them. This was complemented by a simplified application process where jobseekers only had to fill out a form in place of providing a CV, since the vacancies being applied for were primarily entry-level positions. This smooth recruitment experience helped link recruiters with jobseekers, facilitating communication between them and making possible connections that were a major challenge in the prevailing system. Through this exciting new approach to F&B sector recruitment, we were able to show young Saudis how F&B sector jobs are worthwhile opportunities, jobs that they could be excited to apply for.
